The Danube Delta - Forests - Monuments of Nature

On the Delta land surface one can notice the high vegetation, in the majority the willow tree, the poplar (afforested) and rare species in the areas declared reservations.

Letea is the monument-forest situated at 7 km south of Periprava (Chilia branch). It developed on the sand branch with the same name, in strips; it presents climbing plants of Mediterranean origin, in the shape of lianas among specific trees - grey oaks (age-old of more than 25 m height), elms, alders, white and black poplars, willows, fluffy ash trees (botanical rarity). It shelters eagles, snakes and vipers.
Caraorman, a monument-forest located in the west of the sand bank with the same name between the branches Sulina and St. Gheorghe, is a formation of trees in groups (clusters). The flora and the fauna resemble with the above.
Erenciuc, situated in the south extremity of the homonymous lake, is the single natural forest of alder trees from the Delta. The eagle nestles here.
